Clappers are pressing aids, originally used in tailoring, to flatten thick, multi-layer seams. After pressing a seam with a hot iron, the clapper is placed on top of the hot fabric. As the heat and moisture is absorbed by the wood the seam is flattened dramatically. Especially useful where multiple seams come together at star centers and block intersections.
